Melissa Marsh, Researcher and Advocate at Working Spaces

Melissa Marsh is a researcher, educator, and advocate of the power of workplace environments. Leveraging a background in the social sciences with a Master of Architecture at MIT, Melissa started workplace research and advocacy think-tank, Working Spaces to generate greater thoughtfulness and awareness of the power of spatial design on civic, social, and business initiatives.

Melissa is also an avid teacher on topics of the built environment and human factors, co-founding the AIANY’s first ever Social Science and Architecture Committee, mentoring MIT’s first generation of DesignX participants, advising Columbia University’s Design for America cohort, and developing the MIT Architectural Alumi (MITArchA) organization. Melissa has also spearheaded learning and research initiatives with UVA, Rutgers, and Cornell.

Having defined an early career working with international organizations on the forefront of leveraging workplace design to advance employee-centric and socially-driven initiatives, Melissa also started her own strategy firm, PLASTARC, which is dedicated to making the workplace more flexible and engaging for all. Melissa continues to be an active provocateur and advocate of greater research and education that can advance public knowledge on the intersection of people and place.
